A real estate investment flip in Basalt needed new light fixtures.
A real estate investor based out of Snowmass Village contacted us to assist in remodeling a few of his condos. He purchases smaller units, remodels them and either rents or flips the properties. No doubt in 2022, with the Roaring Fork Valley booming with second home owners and investors, Aspen Home Improvement has been very busy.
In this video we demonstrate how to remove light fixtures and sconces. Most of these are common household types of lighting fixtures. As more homeowners look to upgrade to LED lights, this has become a popular DIY project. If you are not comfortable doing this look for reputable local handyman services, an electrician or home improvement company in your area.
Sconce vs. Ceiling Light
Ceiling lights and sconces offer distinct aesthetics and functionalities, catering to different lighting needs and design preferences. Ceiling lights, often mounted directly overhead, provide general illumination to a room, casting light evenly across the space. Their elevated position allows them to illuminate larger areas effectively, making them ideal for rooms where ample brightness is essential, such as kitchens or living rooms. Moreover, ceiling lights come in various styles and designs, from sleek recessed fixtures to elaborate chandeliers, allowing homeowners to choose fixtures that complement their interior decor while providing adequate lighting.
On the other hand, sconces offer a more localized and intimate lighting solution, typically mounted on walls to provide accent or task lighting. Unlike ceiling lights, sconces direct light outward or upward, creating ambiance and adding visual interest to specific areas within a room. They are often used to highlight architectural features, artwork, or create cozy reading nooks. Additionally, sconces come in diverse designs, including modern minimalist fixtures and ornate traditional styles, enabling homeowners to incorporate them as decorative elements that enhance the overall ambiance of their space. While ceiling lights prioritize functionality and uniform illumination, sconces offer versatility and ambiance, making them a popular choice for adding warmth and character to interior spaces.
A sconce is traditionally a a candle holder that is attached to a wall with an ornamental bracket. Since we no longer use candles are source of light, we substitute with lightbulbs. While mounted perpendicular to a flat surface, the process to remove a sconce is the same as ceiling light. Be careful to support the weight of the fixture as you gently bring it down off the wall. It is easy to scratch the paint or damage walls if you do not.
