Aspen Home Improvement recently helped an Aspen homeowner complete several outdoor patio and seasonal home maintenance projects in one day. The work included removing worn patio furniture, repairing winter-damaged landscape lighting, sealing two concrete patio tables, and replacing a natural gas BBQ grill.

Bear Damage Leads to New BBQ Grill

Colorado’s dry conditions and low snowfall in 2026 have contributed to increased bear activity throughout the Aspen area. Bears searching for food can cause damage to fences, doors, trash enclosures, and outdoor appliances.

In this case, a bear had damaged the homeowner’s Weber Genesis natural gas grill. Although the grill could initially be reassembled and was still functional, the extent of the damage made replacement the better option.

Aspen Home Improvement removed the damaged BBQ, checked for natural gas leaks, and installed the new natural gas grill.

Patio Cleanup and Waste Diversion

The homeowner also wanted to remove worn outdoor furniture and large patio umbrellas. Although the furniture was no longer needed at the home, much of it was still usable.

Pitkin County’s waste diversion efforts help keep usable materials and other items out of the landfill whenever possible. The patio furniture and old grill were accepted through the county’s disposal and diversion system.

Concrete Patio Table Sealing

The property had two high-end smooth concrete outdoor dining tables that had spent years exposed to Aspen’s intense Rocky Mountain sun, snow, moisture, and temperature changes.

The tables were still in excellent condition but needed additional protection. We applied Ghostshield Siloxa-Tek 8500 concrete sealer to help protect the surfaces from water and the effects of outdoor exposure.

The sealer provides water repellency while maintaining a natural appearance. Once cured, it did not significantly change the color of the concrete.

Aspen Landscape Lighting Repair

The driveway was lined with quality landscape lights that provided illumination along the walkway to the home.

Winter conditions can be hard on landscape lighting in Aspen. Snow removal and plowing can easily damage fixtures, wiring, and mounting bases. Property managers can often prevent some of this damage by removing vulnerable landscape lights before winter or budgeting for spring repairs.

Most of the lights at this property only needed to be straightened or reattached to their bases.

One fixture had more significant damage, with the internal wiring broken. We rewired the fixture by threading new wire through the hollow housing, reconnecting it to the lighting system, and confirming that the MR16 bulb was working.

After securing the fixture and burying the wiring, the landscape light was back in service.
